How I Became a TWIA Regional Finalist for Best Wedding Cake Designer
Sugar Creations by Dimple – Luxury Wedding Cakes in the East Midlands
I am so happy to share a special moment from my journey this year. Becoming a TWIA Regional Finalist for Best Wedding Cake Designer in the East Midlands. This recognition has added a new level of meaning to the work I pour my heart into every single day.
As a luxury wedding cake designer who prides herself on artistry, flavour, and exceptional service, reaching the finals felt like a powerful reminder that dedication truly does shine through.
Entering TWIA: A Bold Last-Minute Decision
The decision to enter TWIA came to me out of the blue it was a last-minute instinct that told me it was the right time. So I entered. I was nervous but in my head I was thinking, what is the worst that can happen?
Even though I’ve been creating luxury bespoke wedding cakes for years, like many creatives, I can sometimes be my own toughest critic. Entering an award as respected as TWIA meant stepping outside my comfort zone and allowing my work to be judged alongside other incredible designers.
When I received the news that I’d reached the regional finals, I was genuinely delighted. I knew my couples valued the experience I provide, but seeing that reflected in the voting and feedback filled me with immense pride. I am really looking forward to reading the feedback from my couples in January.
My Experience at The Wedding Industry Awards Night
The awards night was nothing short of inspiring. The atmosphere was full of positivity, energy and community spirit it was a true celebration of the East Midlands Wedding Industry.
Any nerves I had quickly turned into excitement as I connected with so many talented suppliers across various categories. The support and encouragement in the room were incredible, and it was an honour to stand among such creative professionals.
Although I didn’t take home the final trophy, the evening gave me a deeper understanding of what an achievement it truly is to be a finalist, especially when you learn just how competitive the awards are.
“This year, just over 1,300 wedding businesses entered TWIA, and an astounding 26,747 votes were cast by wedding couples. From those entries, just over 1,000 businesses earned the prestigious title of Regional Finalist. Not everyone enters, and not everyone becomes a finalist — but I did, and I’m incredibly proud of that.” (Damian Bailey– Founder and Chairman of the Judging Panel- The Wedding Industry Awards)
What I Learned From Being a TWIA Finalist
Far from being a setback, not winning has motivated me enormously.
The experience reminded me how much I love what I do and how much I want to continue pushing my craft forward. I left the ceremony more inspired than ever, with a clear vision of how to refine and elevate my designs for the next awards season.
This finalist recognition has strengthened my drive to grow, innovate, and deliver even more show stopping luxury wedding cakes for my couples across Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and the wider East Midlands.
Why Client Feedback Matters So Much to Me
One part of TWIA I value deeply is the feedback process — especially the comments from the couples I’ve had the honour of designing for. Their votes are what brought me to the finals, and knowing that they took the time to share their experiences means the world to me.
Constructive insight from industry experts is invaluable and will only help me continue evolving as a leading East Midlands wedding cake designer.
What’s Next for Sugar Creations by Dimple in 2026
This TWIA experience has sparked a new level of ambition within me. I’m already planning new designs, refining techniques, exploring fresh styles and elevating the service I provide from first enquiry to final delivery.
Winning isn’t the only measure of success — growth is. And this year has given me both clarity and momentum.
I’m stepping into 2026 with renewed confidence, creative energy, and excitement for everything I’ll be creating for my wonderful couples.
